Traveling by Air

Two regional airlines provide jet service from Edmonton and other major centres to Yellowknife.

Canadian North
Canadian North, operated by Air NorTerra Inc. is Canada's premier northern jet airline providing passenger, charter and cargo service in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, linking the north with southern Canada and the world.

Canadian North operates scheduled, and charter services using three 737 Combi aircraft and two F-28 passenger aircraft. Business class is available on morning and evening flights to Yellowknife.

Canadian North brings people to the north through the gateway cities of Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa to communities in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The network includes services to Yellowknife, Norman Wells, Inuvik, Hay River and Fort Smith, Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay.

Canadian North uses a worldwide reservations system, which provides access to airlines around the world. It also allows Canadian North to provide interline ticketing and Aeroplan frequent flyer points to their passengers on all their routes. First Air
First Air, one of Canada's largest scheduled airlines operates 19 flights per week from Edmonton to Yellowknife with connections from major cities in Canada.

They also provide regular scheduled service from Yellowknife to 13 other communities in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon including Hay River, Fort Simpson, Whitehorse, Inuvik, Kugluktuk, Holman, Resolute Bay, Cambridge Bay, Taloyoak, Gjoa Haven, Kugaaruk, Rankin Inlet and Iqaluit. Charter flights are also available from Yellowknife.

All First Air scheduled flights earn Aeroplan points. Our fleet consists of over 27 aircraft, mainly B737, B727, Hawker Siddeley 748, ATR 42, Twin Otters and Herc aircraft.
